The peeled fresco
It is applied in the same way as a framed painting, even without the frame. It fits in immediately with the important pieces in the home. Studio ABA produces real hand painted and peeled frescos.
Description
Our frescos are hand painted on fresh lime based plaster, where a very fine layer of mortar (that which is coloured) is peeled off and transferred to canvas. This procedure means that a perfect painting can be achieved either for classical or modern style interiors. Our peeled frescos are distinguished by the accuracy of the design and tones; the colours, which are made with natural pigments, are either soft or strong, depending on the subject. Each piece we produce is unique, it is set apart from the subject simply because it is hand painted, and for this reason we can claim that it is a true work of art. The peeled frescos produced by Studio ABA are made using classic manual techniques; they are and remain testaments of an ever-rare art form, therefore they are destined to be admired for years to come. It is possible to have non-standard paintings with subjects, dimensions and forms different to what is available from our catalogue - for example: for niches, fireplaces, door mantles etc.- and they can be mounted or stuck on the wall with fine mortar.
Fresco peeling technique
1: Preparation of the plaster onto a panel of fresh lime based mortar;
2: Implementation of the hand painted fresco onto the fresh plaster with natural based pigments;
3: The canvas is applied over the painting with a warm water-soluble adhesive;
4: The canvas is then peeled away from the mortar and with this, also the coloured top layer; the colours remain hidden beneath the canvas (as in a negative);
5: The surface of the mortar is then glued to a second canvas using a non warm water-soluble adhesive;
6: The dipping into hot water and subsequent parting of the first canvas (the painting remains glued to the mortar side revealing the colours on the second canvas);
7: Canvas mounting (with the painting the right way up) onto a wooden frame and covering of the sides with a mortar based preparation.
